Goal Setting

I want to talk about "goal setting". This is probably the number 1 key element to most facets of our lives, and yet it is something that so few of us actually make an effort to do. We are all busy, we all lead a hectic life and yes it feels as though there is always "something" in the way. That "something" is just the thing that often is responsible for us not achieving what we really desire - and most of the time it is because we let that something get in the way of our goals, or, worse still, we have failed to set our goals in the first place!

"If you aim for nothing, that is exactly what you will hit!"

"If you fail to plan, then you are planning to fail"

Simple statements I agree, and yet right on the mark. I have just finished a planning meeting with a franchisee who has just realised that they have been doing very little because they simply did not have a plan. When I asked them what their goal was they replied "I don't know....but I want to build this business."

So, breaking it down into small pieces together we set a goal for April 2009. The amazing thing about this was that this person already had 4 people fired up about the product and wanting to get on it, and even more amazing had at least 3 people that were really interested in getting on board with the business! Yet without a solid goal in place with a time frame NOTHING was happening, because they were doing NOTHING about it!

With 10 customers already registered ($2,180 volume) the obvious goal was SENIOR DIRECT with a cumulative volume of $6,200, so about $4,000 to do in 2 weeks or 20 customers. Now before you all go running off shouting "WHAT?! 20 customers in 2 weeks?! THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!!!!" let's look at it piece by piece.

Firstly, let's look at what needs to just be closed off by the franchisee in question personally - 4 preferred customers just waiting there to be registered. Get it done and that is now 16 customers left. Next, register the 3 people that are wanting to get into the business, they also become preferred customers in their own business, so another 3 taking the target now to 13.

Now we have 3 new franchisees, all of which are excited about the product and have already spoken with people about it. Some of these people are already asking "sounds excellent...where do I get it?" So, I advised that the next step is to help the new franchisees register those people as customers. We worked out that between the 3 new franchisees there were 9 customers ready to go. That takes the target down to 4. The other thing that is exciting is that 2 of the new franchisees will also go DIRECT!!!

So, assuming that the franchisee registers his new franchisees and helps them to register their customers, there is still 2 weeks left in April for the final 4 customers required, and that can come from a combination of ANYONE in the team!!!!

Achievable? Not only is it achievable....it is DEAD EASY!!!

Set Goals. Plan where your volume is coming from. Achieve your goals!!!
